- If you want the candidates hired to become engaged and retained, you must follow up and nurture them. This helps enhance the rapport and trust you established with them throughout your interview and hiring process. Your job is not over when someone is hired, especially if they plan to give their current employer a two week notice. Their current employer will more than likely extend a counter offer, which represents your candidate's next promotion and raise. It's important that you begin to align them to your company during that two week notice. Have them complete benefit or tax paperwork, or suggest that their boss or future coworkers take them out to lunch. To follow up well, first have subsequent conversations.
