Four key elements of succeess

- There are four key elements that can help you be successful when leading a team working with data. The first element is to make sure your team is aware of pitfalls. This includes problems and challenges that they may encounter along the way when doing a data project. The good news is you and your team aren't the first to go down this road. And there are a number of things to watch out for. The second key element is to make sure your team is aware of best practices. Again, because you are not the first to go down the road of doing a data project, there are a number of things you can do to make sure you are successful. And if you and your team are aware of these, it will help you derive the greatest value from your data. The third most important element when you're leading a data project is to have a plan and to make sure that everyone knows what the plan is, who the stakeholders are, when the milestones are expected to happen, and most importantly what the deadline is. By knowing what all these things are, everyone on your team can either meet or ideally beat their deadlines. And that will ensure success. The fourth and final element that ensure success in a data project is the use of evaluations. You need to make sure that your team knows what their performance will be based on and how they will be evaluated. I use four key metrics: accuracy, completeness, timeliness, and neatness. By making sure people know how they're being evaluated, this will help ensure success. And by providing actionable feedback, it will allow your team to improve over time. So if they accidentally fall into those pitfalls or they miss the best practices and they don't stick to the plan on a certain project, they'll hopefully get it better the next time around.
