Generate options and make a choice

- Many times, decision-making is straightforward. You have a clear mandate, precedent, or formula, and you follow the rules. Of course, many other decisions require you to be a little creative. There are many problem-solving techniques out there designed to help you generate multiple viable options. But if you want to make high-quality quick decisions, just follow these guidelines. Start by asking yourself what is the ideal solution? If time or resources didn't matter at all, what would you do based on the needs of the situation? This might sound lofty or unrealistic, I understand, but this is just where you're going to start. If there were no barriers, what's a great option look like? Try to think about and write down your top two to three possible choices. Next, think about who will feel the impact of your decision. Your employees, your boss, or maybe a client. Who will care and what would they choose to do if it were their decision? I'm not suggesting you're supposed to imagine…
