- Robert De Niro was famous for being a method actor. A method actor has a complete emotional and physical embodiment of the part he's playing. He totally takes over and lives that part for the time that he's on screen. He's not acting that role. He becomes that role. What's interesting about that is he literally has the emotions and thoughts of the character in that role. Why am I telling you this? Because I'm asking you to use a form of method acting to get yourself into a coaching mindset, to make sure you're actively inhabiting the role of coach instead of critic when you approach the virtual performance appraisal conversation. When you're in-person, you should be in that head space too, of course. But in that case, you can read the room, feel the feelings, and adjust. When you're coming across on-screen, you just don't have that physical connection, the connection that shows them where you're coming from or…
