Go where you're celebrated

- Don't stay where you're tolerated; go where you're celebrated. Don't stay where you're being tolerated; go to where you are being celebrated. This phrase asks you to take a hard look at the communities of people you surround yourself with. How much do they value you? How much do they love and honor and respect you? How much do you value, love, honor, and respect them? If the answer is not much, then it might be time to move on and find the group of people who are so happy you're there, the place where you fit in like a key into a lock. Now obviously, you're not always going to get along perfectly with everyone, but you know the feeling of what it is to be in a room full of people who share your values, who are interested in you, who challenge you, who want to see you succeed. And if you can't find that room or if you are constantly rejected from the room, then create the room you need. Here's a few ways to create a community that celebrates you. First, connect with the people you have common ground with. Connect with people online, offline, at work, in your place of worship, on the street, in your town, anywhere you can find them. Next, start to create your own little community. I know it's not always possible to just pick up and find a new group of workmates or friends or colleagues, but just start small. Maybe it's just a private Facebook message or a Facebook page or a monthly dinner party or a book group. Practice gathering people together. Again, look for people whom you know and you like and you respect and who like and respect you. You may have to admit that your family of origin, your community, your work colleagues may or may not appreciate you, so stop going to the empty cookie jar. Stop looking for approval from people who are not capable of approving of you, and instead, find and go where you are celebrated. The quality of the work you will produce when you are feeling loved and celebrated is infinitely better than the quality of work you will produce when you feel merely tolerated. Your ability to succeed goes up exponentially when you feel seen and heard and valued.
