- So now we come to the final stage of the pay negotiation. And I think the only thing to look out for is the nibble actually. So you might agree that you're going to get a pay increase, and then they might say, "Oh, but there is one thing, I can't pay it till next year." And that's going to cost you quite a few thousands of pounds. That's a big thing. And it's really tempting to go, "Yeah, no problem," 'cause you're delighted to have got the deal. But there is a possibility that you can say no to that. You could say, "Well, no, if you could pay me it next year, you could pay it for me now." Or you could say, "Well, if I have to wait till next year, I think it should be more 'cause I'm going to be losing out on all the money until that point." So you can negotiate back at that point.
