- We know that in every negotiation you've got to think about your walkaway position because that's where your power comes from. Can you walk away? At what point will you walk away? Now, if you're dealing with a difficult colleague, what does walking away really mean? So the question is, what will you do if they tell you to get stuffed? How are you going to walk away from that? What are you going to say? And I think the walkaway power is if you say I would like to do this and they say no, you can either leave with it, which is unacceptable or you can escalate. And I think the question is, at what point will we escalate it? Walking away really means either going to your boss or their boss. And I think both of those are okay plans by the way, to go to either their boss or your boss, but you will need some evidence. So if you can get something in evidence, that would be great.
