- We always feel a little bit weak in every negotiation. So when I'm selling a house, I feel weak. I want to get rid of the house. When I'm buying a house, I feel weak. I've fallen in love with the house. But I think probably the negotiation where we feel weakest of all is when we're asking our boss for a pay rise. I don't know why. It's just a bit awkward and we feel that the boss has the power in the relationship. So how can you increase your power when you're going to negotiate for a raise? And the answer is to focus on their weaknesses because your boss does have weaknesses, and if you can focus on those, you can make yourself feel stronger. So what are your boss's weaknesses? Well, firstly, they need you to be happy. You're not going to do a great job unless you're motivated, and if you're unhappy about your pay, that's going to reflect in your performance.
