How to manage resistance when addressing high conflict

- When you're dealing with a high-conflict behavior or situation, one thing is for certain. There will be resistance. You'll probably struggle when you visualize yourself addressing that high-conflict issue because you already think you know what they'll say. They'll blame someone else. They'll say I've already tried that, or it's not possible and that is a problem. But the bigger problem is that you know what they'll say and as a result, you also resist. Resistance is when the needle stays stuck on zero. The only way to move the needle is through willingness. And since the other person isn't willing, you have to be willing to initiate real change. The magic phrase to test for resistance is, are you willing? Le's pretend that I'm coaching you to find your resistance. Perhaps you say, well I already know what they'll say.
