- As a manager, one of your jobs is to help people achieve mastery, and the way to do that is by giving them feedback on their performance, but sometimes that feedback is negative, and let's face it, negative feedback is uncomfortable. It's uncomfortable to receive it, and it's often uncomfortable to deliver it, so how can we do this better? It turns out there's some great research from Stanford University that gives us some guidance. It's a concept that's come to be known as wise feedback, and it's literally 19 words you can use to make negative feedback a source of mastery, and the 19 words are this. "I'm giving you these comments "because I have very high expectations, "and I know that you can reach them." Let me say that again.
