How to signal you’re overwhelmed but not incompetent

- As I prepare for my leadership keynotes, I will often interview several of the expected audience members so I can better understand their biggest concerns. Without fail, the number one challenge that tops the list is how do I get everything done. These leaders are stretched beyond reason. Their plates are overflowing. But they're also reluctant to speak up about feeling overwhelmed. Why? Because they're worried about what their managers might think. Maybe he's not equipped to handle this job. Is she disorganized or unfocused? They'd rather work another weekend than risk giving that impression. If you can relate to that, I would urge you to consider following these steps. Start by getting a second opinion about your workload, an objective one from a trusted advisor. Be honest with them about the scope of your assignments.
