How you drift through life

- Welcome to this course on planning your career and your life. And I don't think there's anything more important than that, is there? And I've been pondering this subject for years. Most of us drift through our lives. And I've drifted through my life mostly, as well. But I've learned a lot, because I've been observing myself as I've gone through the various stages. A lot of things have happened to me. For example, I've been made redundant three times, and each time I learned something which I want to tell you about. I've had all sorts of careers. I started out as an engineer. I've got a degree in engineering. I've worked as a manager, I've been in charge of 200 people. I've been a university lecturer, and I'm now self-employed. So I want to tell you about what I learned from those and how those are going to help you plan your career. When I was at school, they had a computer test, which told me the recommended career for me. And it came out and it said that I should be a landscape gardener, which is quite bizarre, because I've never done anything remotely like that. And I don't think it would suit me. And more recently I did another computer test, just to see what it would say. And it told me to join the Army. Which I know would not suit me. So I think computers are not able to answer this question of what is the best career for me. And I'm going to tell you later on why I think that is. This course is going to cover everything I've discovered about work, careers, and the big picture of your life. So let's dive in and get started.
