- If you want to sound smart in your next project kickoff meeting, say something like this: I know that we all want this training to be a success, meaning that it have a positive measurable result, so what are the metrics or key performance indicators that we're hoping this training will address? Okay, that was a bit corporatey, but there's a decent amount of truth in it. Training much of the time addresses a problem in employee performance. If the problem is important enough, someone in the organization is tracking it. And if someone is tracking the problem, you have a chance of showing the training that you've designed has impacted it. A really important point before I go on: identifying and tracking key performance indicators takes a good deal of time and effort. For most of the projects that you work on, it won't be worth it.
