- Here's a fun exercise to practice your active listening skills. I do this often with groups, where I pair two people up and I have one person get a blank piece of paper and a pen. So why don't you pause me for a moment and go grab a blank piece of paper and a pen for yourself and come right back? So now I'm going to describe three images I have on the piece of paper in front of me, and you are going to listen very carefully and draw, as best you can, what you hear. Okay, let's begin. The first image is in the upper-left-hand side of the piece of paper. Seven flowers and a butterfly. Seven flowers are rooted in dirt. They have one leaf on each stem and five petals. The butterfly hovers directly over the middle of the seven flowers. The second image is to the right of the flowers and it is a raincloud.
