- My undergraduate students are notorious for taking great care on the first steps of a project only to lose it at the end. I think of one group in particular, that on this project they really took their time understanding exactly what I was asking for. They went through and established great criteria for choosing a topic. Then they came up with a ton of ideas and limited those to about five. Then they made two key mistakes. They fell in love with one of the options that didn't even meet the initial criteria they'd established and from there, they just went their own individual ways without a clear plan in place as to what to do.
