- Let me tell you something that's fairly well-known and then I'll tell you a secret. What's fairly common knowledge is that when comedians first read a joke, they test it out on several audiences. And when they bomb, it's actually helpful because the next audience, they can change the delivery slightly or edit the joke and try again. Here's the secret.
