- So when I first started cold calling, I used to plan out every conversation in my head before I actually dialed the phone. To me, it was important work that I had to do. I didn't want to be improvising and getting caught off-guard and making a fool out of myself, burning the lead and losing the sale. I'd think, "What if they say this? "Okay, if they say this, then I'll say that. "Oh, hang on. What if they say that? "Well, then I guess I'll have to say this. "Oh, I didn't think about if they say this as well." And while I'm doing all of that, I'm just staring at the phone. My mind is somewhere on the moon and the clock is ticking away. And then I eventually made the call and it just went to their voicemail after all of that. And then I'd do it again with the next number. I was wasting so much time and I was just getting into my own head as well, fretting about scenarios that almost certainly weren't going to happen.…
