Keep the big picture in focus
- Each person on your team is focused on their work. They're looking at the details. They're thinking about what they've got to do today and what they've got to do tomorrow. It's like they're looking at a single tree, up close and personal. They can see all of the bark, they know exactly what's going on. But looking at one tree isn't the same as seeing the whole forest. When you step back from one tree you can still see it and you can see a lot more and you have a new perspective, you can even get up high like a bird and see a bird's eye view. Still see the individual tree, the individual work and yet see it all in a different perspective. Remember, your team members are only seeing their tree. They don't have the same inputs as you, so they don't have the same perspective as you do. It's our job to help people see the forest and not just their tree.
