- [Instructor] They call it the messy middle for a reason. When you're first starting out on a goal, there's often a lot of excitement, but eventually, reality sets in. This is taking a lot longer than you expected and there may be setbacks along the way. It's easy to feel discouraged. So here are three steps you can take to keep up your momentum. First, everyone has a preferred strategy for knocking off goals. Some like to tackle the hardest thing first each day because it's satisfying to get it done and everything else feels easy afterwards. Others prefer to gather small wins so you can see visible progress and feel successful, even if that particular task isn't the most important. If you feel like you're in a rut, shake up your strategy. If you've been doing the hardest thing first, go for a small win, and vice versa. The changing routine can help pull you out of the doldrums.
