Listen to understand instead of learn

- It's been said that the platinum rule of listening is to listen to others as they want to be heard. In this chapter we're going to talk about listening in order to understand, as opposed to listening to learn. When we engage in a conversation with this sense of openness, we desire to truly understand the other person's point of view. It opens a whole host of other opportunities to truly connect with your audience. As best you can, employ empathy, especially when working through a conflict. How would you want to be heard if you were the one sharing your feelings and thoughts? When we listen to understand in order to just learn we also might find ourselves asking questions we hadn't anticipated, probing deeper into the other person's side of the situation.
