- Maybe you've heard the phrase, you don't need to reinvent the wheel. It simply means that you don't need to struggle to figure out something that's already been figured out by someone else. And it's not just true with wheels. It's also true with building your leadership visibility. If you want to project yourself as a leader, look at how others do it. That's why people read books by successful business, social or political leaders. And while reading the books of mega successful titans of industry can be interesting, most of the time, the gap between their experiences and normal people trying to build their visibility as an emerging leader is an unreasonable chasm to cross. Rather than trying to emulate what Warren Buffett, Steve jobs or Mark Cuban did to get where they are, I recommend instead looking at people who might be one or two steps ahead of you, or one or two rungs higher on the corporate ladder.
