- I didn't know any out and out salespeople while I was growing up. Everyone has salespeople in their own right. And my father was selling his services. So understood the process. But nobody was a typical sales person. Making cold calls, pitching products to clients, hitting targets or earning commission. But, when I landed my first sales job, my uncle took me for dinner and he gave me the only advice he could. His father was a salesman and that was his only connection. And he said, love what you sell. Don't just sell whatever makes you the most money or you've seen other people sell successfully. Choose something that you love and you buy into. And to date that might have been the best advice I've received on the subject. Sales isn't an easy job. At the best of times, it's a hard job that requires graft, creativity and most of all, resilience. You need to weather the storms of dry spells and tough customers.…
