- Moving from a technical role into a role as a manager can be rough. Depending on your role, management might just be a small part of your work day or it might take up the majority of your working time. This could lead you to a lot less hands-on technical work, which with enough time, can make it difficult to keep your tech skills sharp. But don't lose hope. While you're building your new management skills, there are also approaches you can take to keep your tech skills up-to-date. Before working on your technical skills, I'm going to recommend that you take a moment, sit down, and list all of the management, all of the business, and all of the technical skills that you want to develop or you want to maintain in the next year.
