Managing vacation requests when deadlines loom

- One of the most common challenges managers face is scheduling vacation time for employees in a way that stills allows the team to get the work done. Even if you plan correctly, sometimes employees really need to shift a vacation they've scheduled. Other times, the workload will unexpectedly change, and the acceptable vacations that are already scheduled begin to look a whole lot less acceptable. So what do you do? Start with a clear vacation policy that touches on request deadlines, secular and religious holiday guidelines, any peak times when vacation is restricted, etc. This policy should be given to new employees, referenced during employee orientations, and should be shared with existing employees at least once per year.
