Managing your peers
- Your peers can be instrumental in leveraging your leadership success if you manage the relationship correctly. Here's some peers you will come across over the course of your career. First, there are fellow high performers. When I was a young sales rep with Procter and Gamble, one of the big mistakes I made was viewing my peers as my competition. I wish someone had said, look around the room, the people you see here are the people you are going to be doing deals with in 20 years, you're going to be VPs and executives. So get to know each other so that you can rely on each other in the future. So I'm telling you now, identify other high performers and engage them. Even if no one has called out the language and behaviors we're talking about, leading yourself, your fellow high achievers are doing this.
