Marketing is about persuasion

- Marketing is fundamentally about persuasion. Your end goal is to convince a prospect to take action. By prospect, I don't mean just anyone. I mean someone who is your ideal customer or at least potentially interested in what you have to offer. Let's look at this from the customer's perspective. All day long they're being marketed to in various ways. They've built up a shell of resistance to a lot of marketing messages but not all, and crucially, if you're offering something that meets their needs or desires, they want to hear about it. They want you to break through the noise. Most purchasing decisions are highly emotional. We like to believe that we make all our buying decisions based entirely on logic, carefully weighing costs and benefits, and then choosing wisely each time, but we don't.
