Moving to management

- Hello and congratulations. If you're joining me for this course, you've likely started working as a manager or you're considering the move to management. Perhaps you're excited about focusing on the human and organizational challenges. Or maybe management is just a part of your larger career path. Whatever your reason, welcome. Managing people in technology is a great way to increase the amount of impact you have on your company and on your products. But moving from a technical role as a sole contributor to managing people can be difficult at times. Many people think of management skills and people skills as something inborn rather than something you can learn. Don't worry. Management skills are indeed skills and they're ones you can learn. In this course, we'll learn more about what skills you can develop to start out strong in management. Together, we'll be covering fundamental management issues like ethics in management and advocating for your team. We'll also learn about some of the tasks that would be part of your work as a new engineering manager such as holding effective 1:1s or holding reviews. This course aims to give you the tools you need to transition from a technical sole contributor to managing people in tech. But this course doesn't need to be your only resource. Reading books on management, talking to successful managers, or working more closely with your own manager through this exciting transition would all be great supplements to this course and to your management journey. Let's get started.
