Moving out of your comfort zone

- [Woman In Orange] I want you to close your eyes and think about sitting around a campfire with your team. It's warm and cozy. You feel safe and relaxed. Everything is going along smoothly. Sure, it's great to be there but if you get too used to being in that wonderfully comfortable situation you'll never go anywhere. You won't venture out and try new things and neither will your team. The only way you're going to grow and change is if you step out of that comfort zone. Your job as a leader is to push yourself and your team out of that comfort zone towards change and growth. Because if you stay in that comfort zone, you run the risk of being left behind. To do this first admit there's got to be a change. Acknowledge that you've been resting in a comfort zone and that you and your team will have to get up and move out of it. This first step is crucial. You may not know where you're headed yet but that's okay. Stand up and take a look around to see what is possible. Next acknowledge that this is going to be hard and that you'll need to prepare for the journey ahead. Finally, get the team involved, share your past experiences. Talk about times when you've had to move out of your comfort zone in order to grow and change. It will build your collective competence that you will not only survive this change but also come up better on the other side. As a leader, your job is to drive change. So take the first step by making sure that you and your team are ready to move out of your comfort zones.
