- Getting a new boss, even if you're not in a new role, can be a nerveracking experience. But don't worry. You know that leading yourself and having a great relationship with your boss are not in conflict. They're linked. So here are a few things you can do to start the relationship off right. Begin by recognizing that your boss is probably just as eager to make a good first impression as you are. The employer-employee relationship is becoming progressively more of a two-way street. Your new boss wants you to like them and be excited about working with them. They want you to think that they're a good leader and they're fair and they're invested in your development.
