- So that's how you negotiate with your boss. I think the essence of bosses is, first of all, if you don't ask, you don't get. And they're going to be fine about it. I mean, the worst that's going to happen is they're going to say no. And then it's all about finding out what their objections are. Objections and tradables. What about if Fred covers the job? What about if I can check my emails occasionally when I'm out there? What about if it was unpaid? So if you could find out what the boss's worry is, there's probably a way to cover it, and then you can get your dream holiday. So bosses are fine. They're up for negotiation, providing you're obviously friendly and nice and helpful and blaming it on yourself. You know, I'm really sorry but it's me that wants to go on this trip, and I know it's inconvenient but I think we can find a way to do it that will work well for both of us. So I hope that helps.
