- Company work doesn't magically happen. There's a complicated set of rules and structures that gets the right people to do quality work to deliver to customers. HR helps the flow of work by playing a role in organization design. The CIPD, the U.K.'s professional body for HR and people professionals, describes and guides how to use organization design principles. Organization development and design is about taking a system and a behavioral science approach to improving an organization's performance. It then refers to the hard and soft elements of an organization, with the design being the hard one, technical qualifications, frameworks for how things get done, and the processes and systems we use in our work, making decisions, spending money, et cetera.
