- The context in which you're leading shapes many of your choices. I want to focus on two really important factors. First is the stage of development your organization is in. This is part of the lifecycle of any organization, and each stage is characterized by different goals and needs. The beginning stage is inception where an inspiring idea creates a startup. Next is the launching phase, where implementing the dream takes a constant infusion of resources. The organization next moves to the growth stage and the focus in on getting established and profitable. The fourth stage is maturation where the organization now seeks to grow in its market. Next the organization turns to increasing performance where it attempts to achieve peak operation in all functions, including its products, systems, and talent.
