Owning your mistakes

- One of the best lessons I've learned time and time again is that I can use failure to help me grow. I also learned failure is not fatal. And therefore I have a choice to either wallow and sit in that failure or get up and own it. As you probably guessed, I now choose the latter. I found that owning my failures is so powerful because it illustrates that failure is, well, mine. And because it's mine, I have the opportunity to do amazing things with it in my leadership journey. Now I want to share with you two substantial ways you can spark your true superpowers by owning your failures. Owning your failures begins with reconciling your tangible strengths, meaning you need to be in agreement with what you believe and your personal concrete strengths that will get you out from under failure and into success. For instance, when I was unemployed I owned the fact I failed and I also owned the fact that I am connected to so many amazing people and knowledge through my career, personal life, and even LinkedIn. Because of this, I will network with others. I will use LinkedIn as a resource for getting my career back on track. And I will utilize my experience as an HR professional to target the position I really want this time around. Next, and this may sound cliche but to own your failure is to believe that every dark cloud has a silver lining. A great definition for this timeless statement comes from vocabulary.com and it states that even the worst events or situations have some positive aspect. How powerful is that? Looking at the silver lining helps us in owning that, yes, this did happen and yes, I can learn and grow from it. Beginning today, I urge you to get a journal or notebook and begin this exercise. Make four categories, goals, challenges, stop, and start. Under goals, write your intent. For instance, get a rewarding job in my profession. Under challenges list what challenges you're facing in reaching your goals. For instance, I'm having challenges with interviews. Under stop, write down things that are hindering your progression like stop second guessing myself. And finally under start, write down actions you need to start so you can be successful. For instance, practice interviewing by recording myself and role playing with friends. By doing this exercise you're not only owning your failures you're using your failures as a power move in your quest for success.
