- Are you managing performance, or are you the one being measured? Whatever the case, it's vital to know a few performance measurement terms. Let's start with data analytics. Everybody loves data analytics, but what is it? Data analytics is the analysis of data, analyzing data in an effort to make better management decisions. That's why your boss keeps talking about data analytics. Someone with skills in data analytics has the power to organize and understand data. And then hopefully they can help make better business decisions. Our next term is metric. A metric is how we measure. Each metric represents a different measurement. A score on a standardized test, this is a metric used to measure student performance. Points per game, this is a metric used to measure athlete performance.
