- How do you get the balance right between work done by people, and the necessary pay benefits and recognition for their efforts? And what is HR's role in that? Reward is a label attached to the financial and psychological benefits, feeling valued and trusted to do their work that people get from their work. We often talk about pay and salary in a way that attaches wages to work in a very simplistic calculation. Reward though, is more than pay and the security of a job. People are rewarded through a sense of accomplishment, belonging to the cause of the organization. We see that especially in health and social care organizations, developing friendships with teammates, sharing the challenges at work is highly rewarding to many people, especially in emergency response services.
