- As I share in my book "Pivot" the pivot method is a four-stage process to help navigate what's next, whether during an individual reflection or a coaching conversation. When coaching new managers, it can be helpful to work through each of the four stages together, educating them on the four steps, so you can return to this and to help them strengthen pivot as a mindset and pivot as a method to map what's next while they're onboarding and as they're coaching their new team members through similar career conversations. The first stage of the pivot method, plant, is about two key areas, strengths and one year vision. For strengths, example coaching questions might include, what energizes your new manager the most?
