Practice quiet
- Your life is louder and more distracting than over 90% of all humans who have ever lived, and the noise in our lives just keeps getting louder. Successful executives practice quiet, quieting your physical environment, and quieting the highway of distractions racing through your mind. This whole notion of quiet draws on ancient disciplines of solitude, silence, and stillness, and neuroscience confirms this ancient wisdom. When used as a control in a study testing the effect of different kinds of music, silence outperformed even relaxation music as the most beneficial. Silence allows your brain to process in a default state. In another study, two hours of daily silence led to development of your cells in the hippocampus, strengthening memory formation.
