- Guilt. It's often present for working parents at the best of times, so imagine how hard it gets when we are called upon to play two roles simultaneously every day. And during a crisis, we may only be noticing the times that we fall short because we feel that we need to fix those and we may not have an extra moment to acknowledge the times when we did okay. But if you get too mired in guilt you wall yourself off from moving forward because you're stuck in your own head. Remember, taking care of yourself is not a selfish act and it models good self-care and emotional intelligence for your children. It helps you become a more calm and balanced parent. And when your kids see you as not just a parent, but someone that has other relationships and hobbies and needs, you can teach them from that whole person perspective and they can enact those lessons some day if they become a parent as well.
