- So we've decided to do it. We're going to ask our boss for six weeks off to go to Australia. The first thing to prepare is timing. You want to get your boss at the right moment, get them when they're in a good mood. So I think the two best times are either after they've just asked you to do something really horrible, and you've gone, "Yes, I can do that. Although, by the way, I would quite like to go on holiday," or after you've done something really good, because then they're going to be in a good mood. So think about the timing. The next thing to think about is tradeables, because we want to find some win-win. So for example, you could say, "I know it's quite a long time, but I'd really like to go on holiday to Australia for six weeks. But I could be on call while I'm there.
