- You might be surprised to learn this, but I am not a natural public speaker. My natural state is being behind the camera, directing other people. So speaking is something I've had to work on over the years, and maybe it's something you'll have to work on, too. Here are a few of my strategies. First of all, practice does make perfect. So you can use a mirror and speak into the mirror and see how you need to be maybe a little more upbeat and make eye contact. Or the other trick you could use is to make some selfie videos and watch yourself back. I know, it's excruciating, but it is something that's probably worth trying. Another thing that's actually really important is if you're going to be on a podcast, the interviewer is as important as you are.
