Realize the power of the one-on-one meeting
- The one-on-one meeting is a chance for you to spend time with each of your team members individually. Too few managers do this regularly, and fewer still get all of the benefits that they could from these meetings, both for themselves and for the team member. So let's talk about how to make these a perfect way for you to manage for better results. First, you got to have the meetings, right? (laughing) Don't just say yeah, I ought to have one-on-ones. You got to actually have 'em. Please have them. Can't get the results and the benefit if you don't. Step two, schedule them regularly. Now, just for an example, let's say that you have a weekly meeting. Maybe you schedule that every Tuesday at two o'clock, but maybe your schedule or your team members don't allow for that kind of rhythm.
