- Author Stephen Covey is quick to remind us that people don't care how much you know until they know how much you care. The success of your performance feedback will depend entirely upon the quality of the relationships that you have with the person. Build your relationships, genuine and sincere relationships with your team member whenever you give feedback and keep in mind a few different things based off of your relationship. You should keep in mind the season of life. Consider where the team member is in their professional career. Are they in their first job, their 15th career move? Are they an industry expert? For example, a team member that is in their first job may require a little bit more coaching grace than a person who has been with the company for 10 years.
