- Have you ever heard someone make a comment towards a colleague based on a negative stereotype? For those of us in positions of privilege, it can be easy to dismiss or not recognize such comments because they don't affect us. But imagine working in an environment where you're already covering part of your identity, trying to just keep your head down and do your job, and then on top of that, people are regularly making undermining comments towards you every day. Maybe you're a black woman that just finished a presentation you worked really hard on, and you felt confident that it went well, only to get feedback that you were too aggressive in the meeting.
