- I'm often asked, what are the qualities that I feel make for a successful sales professional? There are the obvious ones like having confidence, being easily motivated and having a keen eye on revenue targets. However, the first quality I look for from salespeople are those who exhibit strong emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence or EQ is the capacity for self-awareness and control over your emotions. It allows you to handle interpersonal relationships with good judgment and empathy. Having a strong sense of EQ will play a large role in this new era of selling as most of your buyers and clients return to work with a host of different experiences, expectations and comfort levels. We're going to look at the impact of EQ during the early stages of the sales process from lead qualifying and then the sales discovery.
