- One way creativity dies or stays underdeveloped is when we become jaded, make presumptions and assumptions and stop seeing things with new eyes. However, studies show that creative ideas are often the result of unanticipated experiences. It turns out that the element of unpredictability promotes generating a lot of ideas in a short period of time, otherwise known as divergent thinking. Additionally, other studies show that highly creative people display a quality known as cognitive disinhibition and have lowered cognitive filters. This means that they take in a lot of information and details that other people would normally ignore and pass over, giving them a rich mental trove to pull from when making creative associations. In order to cultivate a creative mindset, we need to learn to develop new patterns of attention. We need to learn methods and techniques for looking at different things and to look at them…
