- I am a weightlifter, so I think a lot about how to get stronger. When I work out with my coach, I start a new skill with no weight to learn the movement, then a very light weight, and then heavier weights as I build strength and confidence. The same is true for any skill you're trying to build. This course is about delivering virtual performance appraisals. And to me, having that kind of conversation gracefully is like trying to set an Olympic record. It's a high-stakes conversation. You might be giving someone news they don't want to hear and it happens over the video or phone line. Do yourself a favor and figure out ways to start small. It's actually not hard to do this, you just need to pay attention to it. First, make sure you have weekly or bi-weekly one-on-ones with your employees. Don't just cover your business in email or Slack. You need to have the regular cadence of virtual small talk and maybe some laughs…
