- Setting and sticking to appropriate boundaries is easier said than done, especially when it comes to work and children. But research shows that setting appropriate boundaries helps us to parent better. And in terms of the workplace, it also helps us improve our productivity and motivation. If you are unexpectedly telecommuting, suddenly you may have no real reason to leave the house. The line between work and home has been bulldozed without your consent. You might even have no real reason to get up off your couch. But a commute, even when you hate, is an important psychological signal. It gives you a change of scenery, and a sense of transition between home and work and back again. The same cannot be said for just walking past your dog on the way to your dining room table. So when there's not a naturally occurring transition, you must create one. Maybe you can take a walk outside, before you start your day.…
