- I've been in the sales profession since I graduated from college. And the vast majority of every salesperson I've ever worked with has been above average with their social skills and people skills. There are always a few stragglers, but for the most part it is a profession that understands the importance of being confident, having a positive attitude, showing respect to our buyers. The problem is, above average isn't going to be good enough anymore. You need to excel to be truly buyer-first focus. The list of social skills, people skills and soft skills needed are endless.
