- Many people constantly check their messages. This continuous switch-tasking causes a lot of stress, frustration, and a lack of focus. The good news is there are simple steps you can take to regain control while still communicating consistently. First, designate an emergency channel. As a fan of the classic Batman series, I think of this at your Bat-Phone. When someone absolutely needs to get through to you, what method do you want them to use? A phone call, a text message, a certain chat app? Maybe even email. Choose your preferred method. Then let trusted family members, friends, and coworkers, or even your best customers, know that, if they need to get in touch with you immediately, that is the method to use. Be cautious who you tell about this method. Remember, you're going to leave this channel almost always on, and it's for emergencies only.
