- As a business owner, it's always important to network. And there are some key ways to do it better. When I'm excited about a new business venture, my natural instinct is to talk about it, but I've learned that it's also important to listen. What are the big concerns and challenges that other professionals are worried about? If you have that conversation with someone, you can then follow up by sending an article or a blog post of interest. Asking questions is another great way to get to know people, rather than just talking about yourself. One of my favorite conversation openers, rather than, "What is it that you do?" is, "Where are you from?" It's also important to know your story practice your elevator pitch, not so that it sounds like you're a robot, but be able to say in a very few, couple of sentences, what do you do, why do you do it, and how do you do it? You can also share something memorable about yourself.…
